Chapter 2

~Louis’ Mother’s POV~

I fumble with the keys as I attempt to unlock the door. Once I completed that simple task, I set the flowers down on his kitchen table as I walk inside.

“Lou? I just wanted to stop by to say Happy Anniversary for you and Kat!”

I don’t get a reply, not even any noise from the surroundings. That’s quite peculiar for a guy like Louis. He might be out with Kat. I decide to tidy up the apartment for when they get home. I walk into the living area and straighten the pillows, as well as the mail on the coffee table. I make my way to the bedroom. I walk in and see Louis on the floor. Dead.

As I try to do an impossible task as to calm down, I find a book next to him. It says on the cover ‘Memories’. I frantically flip through the pages to see every page completed with writing. There’s photos added of Louis and Kat. They looked so happy. I then find a note in his hand. Tears pour down my face as I untangle the piece of paper from his fingers. Blood seeped through. I gather the two pieces left of Louis and call 911. I frantically try to wake him up. I know it will not work, but I attempt and convince myself he’s not dead. Lifeless, motionless, pale. I do the only thing I could do; pray.

The police come in the matter of a few minutes. I quickly hide the book and note in my jacket, thinking that they will want it for clues. They ask me some questions, then tell me to step in the living room. I watch as they carry Louis out of the apartment.

As I sit down at my kitchen table, I open the book to the first page. I start to read.
